Leeds West Academy

Robert Cross

Associate Assistant Principal - Achievement

Robert Cross graduated in 2007 with a BA Joint Honours Degree in Economics from the University of Leeds.

Robert decided to take a gap year following University and followed his passion for skiing to Canada.  He spent the year working in Banff at a ski resort and this was his first taste of teaching.  When Robert returned to the UK, he initially followed his degree into banking at the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS).  However, his sister was a Science teacher and always promoted the sense of achievement when helping students she taught, and this inspired him.  This interest grew and grew and in 2011, Robert decided to study and complete a PGCE in Mathematics at the University of Leeds.

Robert began his teaching at Brunctliffe School in 2012 and quickly progressed into the role of numeracy co-ordinator.  He continued to grow his understanding in a variety of roles and schools, which led to becoming the Head of Mathematics at Bruntcliffe Academy.  These opportunities allowed him to develop his teaching and leadership skills which he used to support and develop his team.

Searching for a new challenge led Robert to Leeds West Academy, where he has been able to develop his own understanding of data and achievement.  The school's academic achievement has progressed during his short time in school, and he has been given the opportunity to continue this trend as the Acting Associate Assistant Principal -Achievement.  He looks forward to supporting students, teachers and parents with accurate and meaningful data to support all stakeholders.

Robert has recently become a dad again with his wife Lisa and two young boys, Fletcher and Hector.  He enjoys spending time with them and trying to stay active.  His first love was football, which he played for 30 years before retiring when his sons arrived.  Having got a little older and injury prone, he now socialises by playing the odd round of golf.
