Mathematics Department Wins PTI’s Bernice McCabe Award

Success for Mathematics Department!

We are immensely proud to announce that Leeds West Academy’s Mathematics Department has won, education charity, the PTI’s, Bernice McCabe Award.

Collecting the award at a ceremony hosted in London’s Mercers Hall on Monday, this accomplishment celebrates excellence within subject leadership in our school, and how we put quality subject teaching at the heart of the classroom.

Carolyn Roberts, Co-Director, the PTI said: “The PTI is delighted to announce the Mathematics Department at Leeds West Academy as the winner of the respected Bernice McCabe Award.

"Schools up and down the country have tirelessly supported their students during the pandemic in making sure they have received the highest standard of subject teaching from beginning to end."

Furthermore, our Mathematics Department’s exceptional leadership and impressive teacher subject expertise, along with pupils’ continuously developed enthusiasm and subsequent improved exam successes, were major contributing factors in the PTI’s overall judgement.

Dan Whieldon, Principal of Leeds West Academy commented: “Whilst this award recognises our wonderful maths department, it also jointly recognises our incredible staff and student body who are our biggest advocates and exemplify excellence in all that they do.

“This award is something that our staff, students and wider community should be extremely proud of.”
