Associate Assistant Principal - Personal Development
Laura Singleton graduated from Leeds Beckett University in 2010 with a BA Hons in Physical Education. Following this, she went on to study a master’s in Education.
On completion of her master’s degree, Laura secured her first role in education as a Learning Support Assistant at Leeds West Academy. Her time in this post confirmed that she wanted to begin her journey to become a teacher. She completed two terms as a Learning Support Assistant and was then successful in gaining a place on the secondary PE PGCE at Leeds Beckett University. Upon leaving the academy, Laura realised that she valued the students and the community of Leeds West hugely, and was desperate to return. Luckily, she was able to secure the next available position within the PE department in 2013.
Laura has led in both pastoral and curriculum roles at the academy. As Curriculum Leader for PE, Laura transformed the extra-curricular provision; we now see hundreds of students accessing extra-curricular PE each week. She has also been at the forefront of excellent results in GCSE PE at the academy. Laura was appointed Acting Associate Principal for Relationships and Sex Education in September 2021, and has recently been appointed Acting Assistant Principal for Personal Development, commencing January 2022. Through this role, Laura focuses on the wellbeing and personal development of all students at the academy, an area that she has always been extremely passionate about. Laura will continue to oversee the PE department on its aspirational journey.
Outside of school life, Laura is a competitive sportswoman; competing for Farsley Netball Club in the West Yorkshire and Regional leagues and has the pleasure of being the club’s Chairwoman.
