Aimee Hanson
Vice Principal - Quality of Education
Aimee Hanson joined Leeds West Academy in June 2017 as Director of English within the Senior Leadership Team after a 17-year career at Colne Valley High School, where she was a highly successful Curriculum Leader for English. After being appointed Assistant Principal at the Academy in 2018, she became Vice Principal for the Quality of Education, including oversight of the curriculum and professional development, in addition to being the English teacher for many Leeds West Academy students.
Aimee firmly believes in the transformative power of education and is passionate about ensuring that all young people are provided with their best opportunities for life success. For all young people, Aimee knows that developing the highest levels of literacy is the most important element of their academic toolkit and is responsible for leading the Academy’s drive to ensure there are no missed opportunities for pupils to develop these crucial skills.
Both as a leader and classroom teacher, Aimee ensures that every plan and action she takes is underpinned by the most up-to-date pedagogical and cognitive research.
When not at work or reading, Aimee is studying for a Level 7 Apprenticeship and MSc in Educational Leadership. She loves nothing more than spending time with her husband, grown-up children, dog, and two cats. She is also a keen dancer and long-time member of the Limelight Ladies theatre school dance group.
