Spanish Year 7 Curriculum
During Assignment 1 students will be introduced to the 16 most common sound patterns in Spanish which will build their confidence in independent talk. The topics of family and friendship will be covered. The grammar focus will be on use of a variety of connectives to make extended sentences and use of adjectives to give extra detail in spoken and written work. We will work towards being able to describe what a good friend is or should be, and students will learn how to express an opinion.
The assessment will take the form of a speaking exam which has a picture stimulus. Students have to describe the picture and this will develop the skills the students need for the GCSE exam.
During Assignment 2 students will be introduced to the wider skills of reading, listening and writing. This is the perfect next step from the initial focus on building confidence in the spoken word to develop other literacy skills. The grammar focus will continue to be on use of a variety of connectives to make extended sentences and use of adjectives to give extra detail in spoken and written work. There will also be an emphasis on formation of verbs and mastery of the present tense which is an essential base for further language development and progress. Students will continue to learn how to express an opinion in a variety of ways.
The assessment will take the form of a writing, speaking and reading exam. The test will focus on the active literacy skills needed to be able to analyse longer pieces of written Spanish and also some translation which is a new area of the GCSE.
During Assignment 3 students will be introduced explicitly to the skill of active listening. The topic covered will be technology and students will cover a range of grammatical requirements. These include extended and justified opinions; use of two time frames (one mastered the other developing); and longer more complex sentences which may show examples of subordinate clauses.
At the end of assignment 3 students will complete an end of year exam which will check their understanding of the content covered throughout the school year.
