YEAR 7 TRANSITION AWARDS EVENING
Leeds West Academy were proud to welcome guest of honour, Bonita Norris, who gave an inspirational speech and met our 120 award- winning students at Leeds West Academy’s first ever Year 7 Transition Awards Evening on Thursday 7th December 2017.
The adventurer, who has climbed a number of the world’s highest mountains and was the youngest British female to climb Mount Everest, is an example of many of the White Rose Academies Trust’s Core Values as she is an international leader in her field
The Trust feel they have a duty to create leaders of tomorrow like Miss Norris and want to provide students with outstanding education as well as recognise their efforts by hosting events like the Year 7 Transition Awards.
Alongside the Year 7 students and their guests, former head teachers and Year 6 teachers from the pupils’ primary schools were invited to see how well their former students are performing.
The evening commenced with a speech from the Head Boy and Head Girl of the Academy before the awards were presented. There was be a short musical or video interlude played between each award group.
There were five categories including awards for 100 per cent Attendance, Form Tutor Awards, Subject Awards, Citizenship Awards as well as Special Awards.
Students received their awards in groups of eight and were invited to accept either their certificate or voucher from Miss Norris who was on stage with Leeds West Academy’s Principal, Mr Wilcocks.
Senior Vice Principal, Mr Zeb said: “We wanted to recognise the efforts of our Year 7, who have joined us from local primary schools. This is often a very challenging time for students and parents as they make the huge leap into secondary education. We are exceptionally proud of these students and how they strive to be exceptional every day. Even as the youngest members within the Academy, they truly are role models for other students to aspire to and leaders of the future.”
