Wharfedale Festival of Theatre

LWA hosts the prestigious award ceremony

Leeds West Academy’s production of The Wiz brought home several awards this weekend at The Wharfedale Festival of Theatre.

The awards ceremony exists to promote, celebrate and encourage theatre in Yorkshire. It is open to amateur dramatic and operatic societies in addition to youth groups and schools. Several representative performers from Leeds West Academy, ranging from Year 7 to Sixth Form, were in attendance with parents and teachers.

The Wiz is the sixth major production presented in the Academy's 320-seat theatre. To see a gallery of images from the show, click here.

Mr Wilcocks said: "Congratulations to all of our award winners for an exceptional production of The Wiz. Leeds West Academy is delighted to welcome The Wharfedale Festival of Theatre to our school for the first time and we look forward to working together closely in the future. Thank you to all of our supporting staff and the Academy catering team for providing an incredible service at the event.

I am delighted to confirm that next year, our whole school production will be Billy Elliot - The Musical, which will prove to be our biggest show yet. I'd like to give special thanks to all students and staff who have put so much time into our excellent performing arts programme this year, it has been truly exceptional. Next year promises to be ever greater and I can't wait to see even more shows on the Leeds West Academy stage."
