Student of the Week
A Medical Breakthrough
Congratulations to Sam in Year 13, who is Leeds West Academy's student of the week.
Sam was one of two Leeds West Academy applicants for Medicine this year. After not achieving as highly as he would have liked in Year 12, Sam has taken on a number of extra qualifications including a BTEC Extended Diploma in Science (worth 3 A-Levels) and the Extended Project Qualification in stem cell research. Sam has proven himself to be incredibly resilient and continues to push himself to ensure that he reaches his goal of becoming a Physician.
As part of the application process, Sam had to take part in Multiple Mini Interviews (MMIs) in order to gain a place on the course. The admissions tutors at Lancaster University were extremely impressed with his manner, skills and knowledge on the day, which ultimately secured his conditional offer for the course.
Mr Wheeler adds: "Congratulations on this achievement, Sam. Your contributions to Academy life have been noticed by many in out school community, whether it be in providing professional photography for our communications, or assisting in the technical operations of our theatrical productions. It is clear you're taking this desire to help people even further by applying your talents in Medicine. Well done, you are a credit to Leeds West Academy."
