Primary School Students Write Radio Advert with Capital FM at Leeds West Academy.
Last month, Capital FM’s Creative Team visited Leeds West Academy to present a Creative Writing Workshop to students from the Academy’s feeder primary schools.
On arrival, primary school students were led on a tour of the Academy before getting involved with an engaging session about how to write a short radio advert.
The aim of the advert was to tell their friends about the Academy and why they would recommend choosing it for Year 7.
At the end of the workshop, Capital FM colleagues chose a winning script and the best student writers were invited to the station’s Leeds studios to record and produce it.
Congratulations to winners, Stanningley Primary School, who wrote a brilliant a radio advert entitled “A Whole New World.”
Year 7 student, Nigel, who helped the winning group write their advert, joined them on the trip to the studios in November.
The pupils were given a tour of the studios and offices; they were thrilled to meet breakfast presenters Adam and JoJo before heading into the studio to record their adverts.
Penny, who produced the advert, gave useful hints and tips about how to use radio-style voices, which really helped the students when they took it in turns to read a line each from their radio script into the studio’s microphone.
Penny said: “They were an absolute pleasure to work with, amazing script writing and fantastic voice overs who took incredibly well to direction! I’m 100% sure they will all be an absolute success in their future careers.”
The advert won't be played out on air but we are delighted to share the finished product here:
