Kick Off for WRFA+ Vultures

UEFA-A Advanced Coach David Haley kicks off a championship year for Post-16 footballers

The WRFA+ (The White Rose Football Academy Plus) Vultures received their matchday jackets this week, ahead of their second match of the season.

Leeds West Academy's highly-popular Football Academy exists at the heart of the school’s thriving Sixth Form. It offers a vibrant pathway of enhanced learning, which is uniquely catered to benefit the individual needs of young sportspeople.

This term, the Academy welcomed world-renowned sports educator David Haley, a UEFA-A licensed coach, to lead the White Rose Football Academy onto its next year of sporting success.

Mr Haley is one of a small number of highly-regarded coaches in the UK who holds the UEFA-A Advanced Coaching Licence and the FA Advanced Youth Award. He has over twenty years’ experience of developing young players within professional sports academies, including Bradford City, Huddersfield Town and Leeds United.

David’s students have gone on to secure professional contracts, including two under-21s who have since played for England.

The Academy’s student athletes choose a number of different subjects to complement their compulsory single BTEC in sport. Many have chosen to study A-Level Psychology, Business and Performing Arts, building a strong foundation of skills and experience to further their future careers or academic study. Last year the Football Academy’s players reached the final rounds of 150 competing teams in the ECFA National Cup.

Leeds West Academy’s Principal, Christian Wilcocks, commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Mr Haley to Leeds West Academy’s Sixth Form and also to the wider region of West Yorkshire. David’s remarkable coaching experience, coupled with incredible outcomes for the young people he has trained, makes us very excited for the future of our Post-16 footballing talent.”

Mr Ally Long, Head of PE, adds: “Our students are ready and eager for the new challenges and expert training which David has to offer. We all look forward to this season, where David will continue to raise the ambitions and refine the skills of our young players, whilst securing unique opportunities for each and every student in our thriving Football Academy.”
