Harry Potter Live 100% Attendance Trip

On Saturday 2nd December pupils who had achieved 100% attendance since September 2017 - across all three academies from the White Rose Academies Trust-  went to Leeds First Direct Arena to watch the live orchestral edition of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

12 students, chosen at random, accompanied by staff members, from each Academy watched the fantasy spectacle from their own VIP box and even had the luxury of waitress service and free refreshments all evening.

Everyone was impressed with the service from the arena and everything ran very smoothly.

The students and staff from the across the Trust would like to thank First Direct Bank for their generosity in supplying us with the tickets and First Direct Arena for a thoroughly enjoyable evening and fantastic hospitality.

Students from Leeds City Academy enjoyed Harry Potter Live very much.  The majority of the students had not seen or heard of Harry Potter nor had they understood that ‘Live’ meant with a full orchestra!

Mrs Edwards said: “Students commented on the VIP experience stating that they felt truly looked after and safe.  They were proud to have received this award and even more proud of themselves for having achieved 100% attendance at LCA to date.

This was the perfect opportunity to build stronger relationships with our students and parents/carers said that they were pleased that their sons/daughters were given this experience in recognition for their achievements.”

Like Leeds City Academy, both Leeds East Academy and Leeds West Academy enjoyed the show too.

Mrs McMillan said: “The students from LEA absolutely loved it and felt very special being in a VIP box. The quote of the night was one of our Year 8 students who spontaneously burst out as it ended, ‘That was amazing!’”

She also added: “100% attendance is incredibly important, as excellent attendance at school is proven to improve students’ grades.”

Mrs Jennings said: “What an amazing show and opportunity for our pupils; they thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were very grateful for being invited.  Many pupils commented that it was by far their best Saturday night out.

Our pupils were an asset to Leeds West Academy, conducting themselves in such a positive manner. The feedback from staff at the arena was extremely positive regarding our pupils. An amazing night.”

First direct recognises the huge value of education and the life changing opportunities it can bring.

A representative said: “We are proud to be able to support the White Rose Academies, which includes our investments via INTO University, supporting campaigns that promote attendance and also be the provision of opportunities for pupils to attend shows at the First Direct Arena.

Our contribution to local communities is an important part of our approach to sustainability and aligns to our values to pioneer amazing service.”
