Laura Dixon grew up in the Yorkshire Dales before studying French and Russian at UCL School of Slavonic & East European Studies in London. During her degree she gained an EAL qualification and ran English study support projects in the inner city boroughs of Hackney, Islington and Chelsea where she gained council awards for her impact on the attainment of underachieving students.
Laura has lived in France, Germany, Spain and Russia where she gained teaching experience in varied secondary school systems. She returned to the UK as a Director of EAL summer schools in Brighton and London before deciding to complete her PGCE at The University of Leeds in Modern Languages.
After completing the PGCE, Laura joined Leeds West Academy and has thoroughly enjoyed working within the Spanish team to secure the great improvements. She is very excited by the new developments in the Spanish curriculum and seeing the Academy’s students' talents, enthusiasm and ambitions flourish.
In her spare time, Laura is interested in travelling, theatre and film. She highly values the exceptional social, cultural and academic opportunities which students gain through studying foreign culture and language and intends to enable students to make the most out of the opportunities in our increasingly connected world.
