Leeds West Academy

Extension and Enrichment Programme

EEP sessions are a unique offer of the Academy. On Mondays students will have the opportunity to follow an area of study, an activity, or a sports/special interest club which would not be available within the constraints of the timetable. Attendance is compulsory for all students.

Many aspects of the specialisms are reflected in the EEP, as well as an extensive programme of additional activities from martial arts to chess. Academy staff offer the majority of sessions, with some outside specialists from the local community working alongside us too. Students also have the opportunity to commit their services to the local area by undertaking community service within EEP time.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme is a significant aspect of the EEP, giving students the chance to participate in outward bound activities at weekends and build their portfolio of evidence in other activities to contribute towards the achievement of Bronze Awards. The World Challenge scheme has also been introduced as an option, with a group of LWA students experiencing the trip of a lifetime to Malawi in 2013.

During the first two weeks of the academy year, students have the time to consider their options for EEP, then make their choice from the wide variety of activities available.
